Workspace

Gram's old print

I do most of my work at home and it’s a tricky balance. I can’t quite keep the sentimental things out of my office, even though I barely have room for my stationery, reference books, samples, drawings. All that pesky work stuff. But keeping something inspiring or sentimental next to where you spend so many hours only helps to feed your creativity.

Ada, I’m going to add a note here about  inspiring organizers in my workspace.

These Italian school notebooks are so traditional looking, they make me nostalgic for my grade 4 schooldesk and freshly sharpened pencils.   The dusty colours inspire me to fill them with ideas and sketches.

Eventually I add covers to create travel or working diaries, stuffed with collected  memorabilia.

Ornaments for clients

Outdated paint samples being put to good use

With a thank-you tag and my logo, it's off to my clients!

As we were about to throw out a fan deck of outdated paint chips, I couldn’t help but think that there had to be something beautiful to be made of it. It’s a nice weight of paper, the color selection is amazing! Thanks to Readymade for a great idea.

Paper stars

A high-contrast paper mobile for my little sister!

My little sister is expecting her first baby at the end of the month and asked me to make a mobile for the nursery. After much contemplation and many experiments in paper, we have this. It’s under debate as to what they’re actually called. They’re known as German stars, Swedish stars, Moravian Stars, Origami stars, you get the idea. I followed the instructions here: How to Make Stars. A little tricky to start, but once you’ve got it, you can fold them with your eyes closed.

Happy New Year!

January 2, 2011

It’s only the 2nd day of the new year and already my glass is half full. Life is has been good to us lately and 2011 feels like it’s holding promises of more goodness. More blog posts for sure, new and interesting work projects on the horizon, more socializing and more fantastic new handiwork. Best wishes to all! xoxo
